The Floresville FFA Public Relations Team competed at the Texas FFA State Leadership Contests on Dec. 2-3, held on the campus of Sam Houston State University. Team members Ashlyn Talley, Georgia Dunn, Hannah Sawers, and Taylor Wall had previously competed in the Guadalupe Valley District FFA Leadership Contests, placing first; and placed second in the Area VII FFA Leadership Contests.

In the state contest, the team must give a 5-8 minute presentation about the FFA to an audience that knows nothing about it and answer questions. This year’s target audience is the school board.

The team competed in the state semifinals Dec. 2 against nine other teams from all over the state. The team finished in fourth place, qualifying them to compete in the finals.

In the finals, they competed against nine other teams again and finished fifth overall.

There were 326 FFA Public Relations teams that competed across the state this fall and Floresville FFA has the fifth-best. This is the highest that any leadership team from Floresville has placed in the Texas FFA State Leadership Contest Finals, having competed three previous times.

The Floresville FFA Public Relations Team would like to thank all of their parents for the help and support throughout the fall semester as they planned for contests. The team would also like to thank Mrs. Hubbert, Mrs. Jarzombek, and members of the Floresville High School staff for their criticism and help to prepare for contests.

The Floresville FFA advisors and team coaches are Mark Jarzombek and Mike Billings.

For more information about the FFA or leadership teams, contact the Floresville High School Ag Department at 830-393-5370.

Ashlyn Talley is the Floresville FFA reporter.
