Floresville City Council to vote on hiring two attorneys Dec. 15

FLORESVILLE -- The Floresville City Council is set to meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 15, to consider and act upon retaining attorneys Jose Garza and Melissa Killen “as special counsel related to election law issues.” This item is the only one posted on the agenda for the special meeting.

According to the meeting’s official agenda, the item was suggested by Councilman Johnnie R. Gomez and Mayor Daniel Tejada. When the Wilson County News telephoned Gomez seeking clarification about the agenda item, he said he was at work and unable to speak. Gomez also said that he might contact the newspaper after work.

Tejada was unavailable by telephone, but left a voicemail message stating that he would prepare a response by e-mail and send it shortly. As of Dec. 14 at 4 p.m., neither has responded.

The council selected Killen in October to serve as the attorney for the Floresville 4A Corp. She works for the firm Kaufman & Killen and was the general counsel for the Bexar Metropolitan Water District until resigning this year. Prior to that, she was Floresville’s city attorney.

Garza’s background is unknown.
