PLEASANTON -- The Lady Bear junior varsity team traveled to Pleasanton last Tuesday night to take on the Lady Eagles in the first district game of the year.

The Lady Bears came out ready to play, and jumped on the Lady Eagles early, scoring 14 points in the first quarter. Reagan Roswell led the way for the Lady Bears scoring 8 in the first.

Keeping the pressure on, the Lady Bears continued to score, adding an impressive 19 points in the second quarter. Heading into halftime, the Lady Bears were up 33-14.

The game slowed down in the second half, as the Lady Bears worked against a zone, but they added another 12 points. The final score was 45-21, giving the Lady Bears a win for their first district game.

High scorers for La Vernia were Reagan Roswell and Cala Foster with 10 points each, followed by Hallie Pace with 8. Jennifer Skrzycki, Courtney Shussler, and Jordan Bailey added 4 points each, Shelby Ellis was good for 3 points, and Tori Broll dropped in 2.

“I challenged the girls to come out strong and they did just that,” said Coach Mandie West. “Having a 33-point first half is a great accomplishment for us. I believe we are prepared for district play and look forward to our next game.”
