HONDO -- The Poth Pirette junior varsity basketball team participated in the 31st annual Hondo/Pearsall Varsity Basketball Tournament Dec. 8-10, winning 5 of 6 games over the three-day period to take home second-place honors. Two members of the Pirette team were also named to the all-tournament team.

The Pirettes defeated Cole, 51-36; Pearsall, 54-25; Carrizo Springs, 42-24; and Roma, 54-34. This put the Pirettes as the first-place seed in their pool for play on Saturday. The Pirettes then played Boerne in a much closer game, but still pulled out a 61-52 victory, which moved them into the championship game.

The Pirettes played the varsity team from Marion for the title, but lost 45-35 to finish the tournament in second place. Devon Dylla and Dominique DeHoyos were later named to the all-tournament team.

This year’s junior varsity squad includes Morgan Koenig, Alexis Serna, Taylor Lipscomb, Dylla, DeHoyos, Amanda Wauters, Shelby Yanta, Alyssa Kruse, Desiree Rivas, Claire Dallmeyer, Celeste Ramon, Alyson Garza, and Kasey Rodriquez. The Pirettes are coached by Amanda Kotara.
