Agnes Gertrude Biela Dugi
Agnes Gertrude Biela Dugi, a longtime resident of Poth, Texas, entered eternal rest Sunday, Dec. 18, 2011, at the age of 88 years, 10 months, and 29 days. She was born Jan. 19, 1923, in Wilson County to John and Gertrude Mutz Biela.
Agnes attended St. Peters Catholic School and Pulaski Schools. Her best subject in school was math, and throughout her life she was a whiz at doing math in her head. She also had a phenomenal memory for people, events, and dates events occurred.
She married Victor Dugi on April 30, 1946, in Kosciusko. They resided in Poth, where in her early 20s Agnes worked for a local dentist and schoolteacher as a nanny and housekeeper. She later worked in the home, rearing their five children, managing the household, and maintaining a huge garden. Agnes was a superb cook and baker, and some of her family’s favorites were her chicken-n-dumplings, homemade bread, cinnamon rolls, and coffee cake.
She was a faithful member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Poth, where she served in the Altar Society. Prayer was a daily part of her and her family’s life, and the rosary and litany were recited daily in the home. Agnes continued to pray the rosary daily until her death.
Agnes was preceded in death by husband Victor Dugi Sr.; her parents; her brothers, Joe, Ben, Henry, and Conrad Biela; and her sisters, Regina Rapstine, Theresa Biela, and Cecilia Biela.
Agnes is survived by children Veronica Lyssy and husband Albert of Poth, Catherine Frazier and husband Roy of Floresville, Mary Dugi of San Antonio, Theresa Turner and husband Ronnie of Floresville, and Victor Dugi Jr. of San Antonio; and grandchildren Cheryl Lyssy and husband Sheldon, Michael Lyssy and wife Renee, Kimberly McClure and husband Scott, Scott Lyssy and wife Danette, Cory Frazier and wife Regina, Jason Frazier and wife Amber, Linda Wiatrek, Elizabeth Urbanczyk and husband James, Jessica Butler and husband Edwill, and T.J. Turner. She is also survived by great-grandchildren Devon, Brittany, Courtney, Mason, Hallie, Ryan, and Rylee Lyssy, Emily and Brady McClure, Reese Urbanczyk, and Logan Frazier; sisters-in-law Rosalie Kotara and Margaret Dugi; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held Tuesday, Dec. 20, at 5 p.m. in the Vinyard Funeral Home Chapel in Poth, with a rosary recited at 7 p.m.
A concelebrated funeral Mass was held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. in the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Poth. Officiating were Father Grzegorz Szewczyk and Father Phil Henning.
Interment followed in the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Cemetery in Poth.
Serving as pallbearers were Michael Lyssy, Scott Lyssy, Cory Frazier, Jason Frazier, T.J. Turner, and James Urbanczyk.
A special note of thanks to all those who visited with Agnes during her nursing home stay, the many volunteers at the nursing home, Father Grzegorz Szewczyk, Father Phil Henning, and to Dr. Frye and her staff, and the dedicated staffs of the Floresville Nursing Center, Connally Memorial Medical Center, and Odyssey Hospice for the excellent care provided to Agnes.
