SA Stock Show & Rodeo announces inductees to 2012 Hall of Fame
The San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo is proud to announce the 2012 inductees to the esteemed San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo Hall of Fame, Jimmie Ruth Evans and Kathy and Tom Tarbox. These three outstanding volunteers have given their time and dedication to the show since the early 1980s. These individuals will be highlighted in private ceremonies held on Thursday, Jan. 12, at the Expo Hall on the Freeman Coliseum/AT&T Center grounds.
Jimmie Ruth Evans began her involvement with the San Antonio Livestock Exposition Inc. (S.A.L.E.) in the 1960s. Having grown up on a ranch near Rocksprings, her love of livestock and ranching was a natural fit for future leadership roles within the S.A.L.E. organization. Jimmie Ruth has volunteered with the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo for more than 25 years. In 1989, Jimmie Ruth accepted the honor of joining the S.A.L.E. Executive Committee and has served for a total of 22 years. She has served as secretary, president (1993-95), and vice president (1995 to 2010).
Jimmie Ruth was also instrumental in the development of the annual San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo Cowgirls Live Forever Fashion Show & Luncheon and was the first honoree of the event in 2005. She has served on Texas Tech’s Range, Wildlife, and Fisheries Management advisory board, on the Agrifood Education Council, and on the Texas 4-H Youth Development Foundation Board.
Jimmie Ruth lives in San Antonio and is married to Richard “Dick” W. Evans Jr. They have two children, Tres Evans and Lee Marie Lee, and one granddaughter.
Kathy Tarbox started attending the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo at the young age of 2 with her father. As a teacher in the Northeast Independent School District for 27 years, Kathy fondly remembers the immense feeling of giving she enjoyed when she was able to solicit funds for children she taught who exhibited their animals and sold them in the Junior Livestock Auction.
In 1986, Kathy became a life member of the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo. She became a director in 1990 and was elevated to director emeritus in 2008. Kathy served on the Auction Committee from 1988-95, and was appointed to the Trailblazer Committee in 1999.
Tom Tarbox did not come from an agricultural background, but once engaged to his wife, Kathy, he established a profound love for rodeos and watching youth show their animals. He became a life member of the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo in 1988, a director in 1990, and was elevated to director emeritus in 2008.
In addition to serving on the Auction Committee and co-chairing the Go Western Gala Committee from 1995-99, with his wife, he also served on the SALE Invitational Golf Committee from 2008-10. He currently serves on the Trailblazers Committee and continues to work with the Junior Livestock Auction Committee.
Kathy and Tom Tarbox are dedicated S.A.L.E. Junior Livestock Auction supporters, and are members of the newly reformed “Let’s Rodeo Ball” Committee. They live in New Braunfels. They have one child, Jason Tarbox, and two grandchildren.
The 63rd annual San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo is set for Feb. 9-26.
