The La Vernia FFA had another successful year within their Leadership Development Event teams. All three teams that qualified for state competition finished in the top 10. Samantha Kravitz and Emily Mollenkopf, members of the Greenhand Quiz team, also placed individually in the top 10.

The journey began at James Madison High School for the district contest on Nov. 9.

Greenhand Creed speakers Allison Bukowski and Kyle Douglas placed first and seventh, respectively.

The following La Vernia FFA teams all placed first in district competition:

•Greenhand Chapter Conducting -- Kaylin Bratz, Gina Colby, Mikayla Dylla, Allegra Holifield, Ashton Huth, Catrice James, Annie Lowak, Braden Recker, Rusty Story, and Kayla Gladstone.

•Greenhand Quiz -- Samantha Kravitz, Emily Mollenkopf, Hunter Dennehy, Breanna Moore, and Jeremy McCulloch.

•Greenhand Skills -- Chad Pargman, Charles Mollenkopf, and Tristan Summy.

•Senior Chapter Conducting -- Shelby Brantely, Trevor Kosub, Katy Sells, Kasey Reinen, Kourtney Sells, Kristen Klein, Landon Richter, Colby Mills, Carly Barnes, and Mariel McFadin.

•Senior Quiz -- Brooke Young, Kristen Dennehy, Dalton Dennehy, Zachary Balcar, Karaline Campbell, Ashton Knight, and Courtney Shussler.

Jordyn Kotzur, Senior Creed Speaker, placed second in district competition, as did the Senior Skills team of Katy Sells, Taylor Penshorn, Cody Burns, and Kimberley Jacob.

With almost everyone moving on, teams once again fought for first- and second-place spots Nov. 16 at the area contest held at Blanco High School.

Greenhand Quiz placed first in area competition, while the Senior Quiz and Senior Skills both placed second.

Fourth-place finishers include the Greenhand Chapter Conducting team, Greenhand Creed, and the Greenhand Skills team.

The Senior Chapter Conducting team placed sixth and the Senior Creed team placed 11th.

It was exciting to learn that the Greenhand Quiz, the Senior Quiz, and the Senior Skills teams would be advancing to the state contest, which was held Dec. 1-3 in Huntsville at Sam Houston State University.

The Senior Skills team placed first in their heat of 10 teams and moved on to compete the next day, where they placed 10th overall.

The Senior FFA Quiz team placed ninth. The Junior FFA Greenhand Quiz team placed fourth, with Samantha Kravitz and Emily Mollenkopf working their way up and landing spots as top-10 individuals.

Congratulations on a job well-done to all teams!
