Fishing report

AUSTIN -- Here is the fishing report as compiled for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (full report is available at www.tpwd.state.tx.us)

Freshwater

BRAUNIG Water clear. Black bass are good on crankbaits and watermelon soft plastic worms. Striped bass are good on liver and chartreuse striper jigs. Redfish are good on shad, shrimp, and silver spoons. Channel catfish are good on liver, shrimp, and cheesebait near the dam. Blue catfish are good on cut bait.



BUCHANAN Water clear; 56--60 degrees; 32.04' low. Black bass are fair on watermelon Whacky Sticks, chartreuse Curb's jigs, Bleeding Shad Rat--L--Traps, and smoke grubs on flats. Striped bass are good on shad colored Rat--L--Traps, Spoiler Shads, and Pirk Minnows, in 20--30 feet. White bass are fair on minnows and Tiny Traps in deep creeks. Crappie are fair on live minnows over brush piles in 15--30 feet. Channel catfish are slow. Yellow and blue catfish are fair on trotlines baited with live bait.



CALAVERAS Water clear. Black bass are good on perch colored spinnerbaits, crankbaits, and Rat--L--Traps. Striped bass are slow. Redfish are fair on live bait, crawfish, and tilapia near the dam. Channel and blue catfish are good on liver, shrimp, and cheesebait near 181 Cove. Yellow catfish are slow.



CANYON LAKE Water clear; 58--61 degrees; 10.29' low. Black bass are good on Texas rigged watermelon Scoundrel worms on shaky head jigs and green pumpkin Whacky Sticks on jigheads off secondary points. Striped bass are good on Spoiler Shads, Red Fins, and Pirk Minnows in the lower end of the lake. Smallmouth bass are fair on smoke/red flake tubes, pumpkinseed curl tail grubs on jigheads, and pumpkin Curb's jigs along ledges in 12--15 feet. Crappie are fair on minnows and crappie jigs upriver. Channel catfish are slow. Yellow and blue catfish are fair on live bait.



CHOKE CANYON Water clear; 60--64 degrees; 11.75' low. Black bass are fair on watermelon and pumpkinseed soft plastics and Rat--L--Traps in 10--25 feet. White bass are slow. Crappie are fair on minnows and green tube jigs. Channel and blue catfish are good on shrimp, liver, and bloodbait. Yellow catfish are fair on live perch.



COLETO CREEK Water fairly clear; 2.80' low. Black bass are slow. Striped bass are slow. White bass are fair on minnows. Crappie are slow. Channel and blue catfish are good on trotlines baited with shrimp and nightcrawlers. Yellow catfish are good on trotlines baited with perch.



FALCON Water stained; 62--65 degrees. Black bass are fair on soft plastics and jigs. Crappie are very good on chartreuse/silver jigs. Striped bass are still in the lake in limited numbers. Channel and blue catfish are excellent on frozen shrimp, stinkbait, and cut bait. Yellow catfish are slow. Everyone in a boat must have a Mexico fishing license (if fishing the Mexico side) whether fishing or not.



GRANGER Water murky; 56--60 degrees; 4.90' low. Black bass are fair on minnows. White bass are slow. Crappie are fair on minnows over brush. Blue catfish are good on stinkbait. Yellow catfish are slow.



LBJ Water clear; 57--60 degrees; 0.40' low. Black bass are fair on Bleeding Shad Rat--L--Traps, buzzbaits, and wacky rigged watermelon Whacky Sticks in 10--20 feet. White bass are fair vertically jigging Pirk Minnows under birds. Crappie are fair on Curb's crappie jigs and live minnows over brush piles in 15--20 feet. Channel catfish are fair on minnows and stinkbait.



TRAVIS Water lightly stained; 56--59 degrees; 54.42' low. Black bass are good on chartreuse crankbaits, watermelon worms, and small spinnerbaits in 20--35 feet. Striped bass are slow. White bass are fair on minnows and chartreuse spinnerbaits in 22--40 feet. Crappie are fair on minnows and blue tube jigs. Channel and blue catfish are slow. Yellow catfish are slow.



WALTER E. LONG Water lightly stained. Black bass are fair on minnows. Hybrid striper are slow. White bass are fair on minnows. Crappie are good on minnows. Channel and blue catfish are fair on stinkbait and shrimp. Yellow catfish are slow.

Saltwater

BAFFIN BAY Trout are fair to good in mud and grass on Corkies and Catch 2000s Redfish are good in the Land Cut on natural baits. Trout are fair on the spoil banks on mullet.



BOLIVAR Trout are fair to good on the south shoreline on soft plastics and plugs. Black drum and redfish are good at Rollover Pass.



CORPUS CHRISTI Redfish are good in the Humble Channel on crabs and table shrimp. Trout are best on the edge of the flats on live shrimp and DOA Shrimp.



FREEPORT Sand trout and sheepshead are good on live shrimp on the reefs. Bull redfish are good in Cold Pass and San Luis pass on cracked blue crabs. Sheepshead are good from the piers on shrimp.



EAST GALVESTON BAY Trout are fair to good on the south shoreline on MirrOlures and soft plastics. Whiting and sand trout are good on the edge of the Intracoastal on fresh shrimp. Flounder are good on the edge of the channel on finger mullet.



WEST GALVESTON BAY Waders have taken trout in the mud and shell on MirrOlures and Corkies. Sheepshead, redfish and black drum are good at the jetty on shrimp and crabs.



EAST MATAGORDA Trout are fair for drifters on live shrimp and soft plastics over humps and scattered shell. Redfish are good on the edge of the Intracoastal on crabs and mullet.



MATAGORDA Redfish are fair to good on the south shoreline in the guts and bayous. Trout are fair on shell on soft plastics. Flounder are fair to good for giggers.



PORT ARANSAS Sheepshead are good at the jetty on shrimp. Redfish are fair to good on the East Flats on Gulps and mullet. Sand trout are good on shrimp in the channel.



PORT ISABEL Trout are fair on the edge of the flats on Gulps under popping corks. Redfish are fair around the spoils on Gulps and shrimp. Sand trout are fair to good in the channel on shrimp.



PORT MANSFIELD Trout are fair to good on DOA Shrimp under a popping cork around grass holes. Redfish are fair to good while drifting pot holes and while wading spoil islands. Trout are best on muddy shorelines and on the edge of the ICW on Corkies.



PORT O’CONNOR Trout and redfish are fair on Corkies over soft mud in waist--deep water in San Antonio Bay. Trout and redfish are fair for drifters working the back lakes with live shrimp and topwaters. Redfish are good at the mouths of drains.



ROCKPORT Trout are fair on the edge of the ICW on glow DOA Shrimp. Redfish are fair to good on the Estes Flats on mullet and shrimp.



NORTH SABINE Trout are fair to good under the birds when the wind allows. Redfish are good in the marsh on small topwaters and Stanley Ribbits.



SOUTH SABINE Sheepshead and black drum are good at the jetty on live shrimp. Trout are fair around the Reef on live shrimp. Trout are good around rafts of shad on MirrOlures and soft plastics.



SOUTH PADRE Trout and redfish are fair to good on the edge of the Intracoastal on DOA Shrimp and Gulps. Redfish, black drum and mangrove snapper are fair to good in the channel on shrimp.



TEXAS CITY Redfish are good on the edge of the deep channels on fresh shrimp. Flounder are fair on the spoils on Gulps and jigs tipped with shrimp.



TRINITY BAY Trout are good for drifters working pods of shad and mullet on Bass Assassins, Trout Killers and Sand Eels. Redfish are good at the spillway on crabs and mullet.
