1936-2011

Earl Thelen, 75, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2011, in San Antonio, Texas. He was born June 27, 1936, in Breda, Iowa, to Paul H. and Alma Thelen.

Earl was a corporate executive in the telecommunications industry, and served in the U.S. Army Airborne Division from 1954 through 1957 and in the active Reserve through 1962.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Carol; his sister, Patsy Tigges; and his brother, Lyle Thelen.

Earl is survived by his sons, Stephen L. Thelen and wife Gina of Plano, Keith J. Thelen and wife Janet of Adkins, Gary D. Thelen and wife Anne of La Vernia, Nicholas P. Thelen and wife Felicia of Scotts Valley, Calif., and Scott A. Thelen and wife Janine of Round Rock; nine grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and nine siblings.

Visitation was held Thursday, Dec. 29, from 6-7 p.m. in the Porter Loring Mortuary North Chapel in San Antonio, with a rosary recited at 7 p.m.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. in the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in San Antonio, with Monsignor Douglas Fater officiating.

Interment followed in the Holy Cross Cemetery in San Antonio.

Memorial donations may be made to Shriner’s Hospital for Children, 6977 Main St., Houston, TX 77030.
