1921-2011

Douglas Elton “Woody” Woodall Jr. of Converse, Texas, 90, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2011. Woody was born Sept. 24, 1921, in Nixon to Douglas and Nina Woodall.

Woody readily admitted to being a prankster in his youth and credited his wife, Marie, with realigning his priorities in life. Most importantly was getting him to grow in his Christian faith and becoming involved in all aspects of the Baptist churches with which he was affiliated through the years. He served as deacon, Sunday school teacher, and on many committees. Woody valued the memories of the many friendships made through his life.

Woody retired with 34 years of service from Kelly Air Force Base and is even better known for the honest work he performed on home and auto air conditioning. He recently said, “A lot of sweat was left on this driveway.” And he left a lot of love in our hearts, his family said.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 70 years, Marie Woodall.

Woody is survived by his children, Gloria Kuhl and husband Robert, Frances Jones, Timothy Woodall and wife Laura, and Donna Nelson and husband Audie; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held Thursday, Dec. 29, from 6-9 p.m. in the Mission Park Funeral Chapels South in San Antonio.

A funeral service was held Friday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home.

Interment followed in the Nixon Cemetery in Nixon.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 8115 Datapoint Drive, San Antonio, TX 78229.
