1951-2011

Vernon Frank “Rusty” Andrisek, a longtime resident of Floresville, Texas, entered eternal rest Christmas morning, Sunday, Dec. 25, 2011, at 9:17 a.m. in his residence in Floresville at the age of 60 years and 22 days. Rusty was born in Cotulla on Dec. 3, 1951, to Adolph H. and Carol A. McCoy Andrisek. Vernon was their only child.

He attended school in San Antonio and Cotulla, graduating from Highlands High School in San Antonio in 1970. During high school, he worked for Joske’s of Texas early in the mornings before school, clearing cash registers of the receipts for the previous day. He attended technical school to study the electrical trade.

Vernon married his high school sweetheart, Candy, after her graduation in 1971. He worked for the city of San Antonio as a construction inspector before being employed by Southern Pacific Railroad as a journeyman electrician for 30 years. He was a Union Steward of IBEW (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers) Local 1911. After retirement, Vernon hung out at Floresville Auto Supply with his friend, Lance Reinhard. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and a board member for Hochheim Prairie Farm Mutual Insurance, Branch 8. In the ’70s, he was a Bexar County Reserve Deputy Sheriff, and worked security at the Turtle Creek Country Club. He enjoyed collecting old military memorabilia, being with and vacationing with his grandchildren and family, fishing, being on his tractor, and tinkering with his 1969 Ford Mustang.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Vernon is survived by his loving wife of more than 40 years, Candy Andrisek of Floresville; his beloved daughter, Kim McIlvain and husband Terry of Floresville; his precious grandchildren, Zac and K.D. McIlvain; his father- and mother-in-law, Buck and Dottie Myers of Karnes City; his brother-in-law, Jeff Myers and wife Sherry of Elko, Nev.; his sister-in-law, Melissa Zipps and husband Donny of Spring; his aunts, Marijo Arche of Devine and Jo Andrisek of La Marque; his uncle, George Smolik of Karnes City; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation was held Thursday, Dec. 29, at 5 p.m. in the Vinyard Funeral Home Chapel in Floresville, with a rosary recited at 7 p.m.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Friday at 11 a.m. in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Floresville with Father Phillip Henning officiating.

Interment followed in the Evergreen Cemetery in Devine.

Serving as pallbearers were Gary Vader, Ronnie Zimmerman, Jimmy Posey, Kenny Jenkins, Bo Peterson, and Kyle Peterson.

Serving as honorary pallbearers were Lance Reinhard and Rick Tejada.

Memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
