LA VERNIA -- Troopers from the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Highway Patrol are investigating the cause of a three-vehicle wreck Jan. 8 near the intersection of U.S. 87 and Blackjack Road that sent one man to the hospital.

Johnny Davis, 72, of Victoria was flown via Air Life helicopter to the San Antonio Military Medical Center. As of 7:30 p.m., there was no information available about his condition.

DPS Trooper Anthony Flores said the preliminary investigation revealed that David Christopher, 47, of San Antonio, who was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 pickup truck, was turning into the Sun Country Mobile Home Park from U.S. 87 at approximately 3 p.m. Davis' south-bound Chevrolet Caprice allegedly struck the pickup truck in the rear, sending it into the northbound lane of U.S. 87 where it collided with a 2002 Honda Odyssey driven by 22-year-old Israel Salazar of La Vernia. Neither Christopher, Salazar, or Salazar's seven passengers were injured.

Officers from the La Vernia Police Department directed traffic at the scene as members of the La Vernia Volunteer Fire Department and the La Vernia Emergency Medical Service worked at the scene.
