Junior varsity Lady Bears remain unbeaten
POTEET -- The La Vernia Lady Bear junior varsity team traveled to Poteet last Tuesday night to face the Agates in their first game back from the Christmas holidays.
The first quarter started off slowly, as expected in the first game back, but great Lady Bear defense held Poteet to 2 points. At the end of the first quarter, it was 9-2 in favor of La Vernia.
The second half was much of the same, as the Lady Bears added 7 points to their score while Poteet only added 3. Heading into the locker room at the half, the Lady Bears were up 16-5.
It seemed as though the Lady Bears got their legs under them after halftime, coming out strong in the third quarter, scoring 10 points and holding Poteet to 3 again. Shelby Ellis scored 8 of the 10 third-quarter points. The Lady Bears added 6 in the fourth to give them victory No. 4 in district by the score of 32-12.
High scorer was Ellis with 16 points, followed by Tori Broll with 7, Kim De la Torre with 6, Courtney Shussler with 2 points, and Jennifer Skrzycki with 1.
The Lady Bear junior varsity team improved to 4-0 in district with the win, and was scheduled to face Lockhart Jan. 6.
