Immanuel Lutheran Church is now hiring for a Youth and Family Ministry Director. Pastoral: Minister to youth and their families during Sunday School and other church programs, being present in their lives outside the church walls, available for common concerns and in crisis situations. Leadership: Recruit and nurture Youth and Family Ministry program. Administration : Manage the planning process and coordinate with Pastor and Youth Committee all regular ministries to youth and their families. This includes youth of all ages on Sunday mornings and mid-week events; assisting with Confirmation, special events, trips and retreats, and parent meetings. Stewardship: Ongoing evaluation of the effectiveness of youth programs, manage youth ministry budget, and collaborate with the sponsors of each Youth group. Ability to build, lead, and empower youth. Ability to implement a ministry vision. Familiarity with Lutheran Doctrine required; must be comfortable teaching it and representing Lutheran Theology. Proficient computer skills using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, database, email, internet, and social media. Supervisory experience preferred. Ability to adapt and evaluate curriculum preferred. Must have excellent organization, communication (verbal and written), and listening skills, with a high degree of initiative and accountability. Exceptional interpersonal and relational skills required, with sensitivity to church members and visitors. Understanding and enjoyment of youth and families and guiding their spiritual development. Junior varsity Lady Bears remain unbeaten

POTEET -- The La Vernia Lady Bear junior varsity team traveled to Poteet last Tuesday night to face the Agates in their first game back from the Christmas holidays.

The first quarter started off slowly, as expected in the first game back, but great Lady Bear defense held Poteet to 2 points. At the end of the first quarter, it was 9-2 in favor of La Vernia.

The second half was much of the same, as the Lady Bears added 7 points to their score while Poteet only added 3. Heading into the locker room at the half, the Lady Bears were up 16-5.

It seemed as though the Lady Bears got their legs under them after halftime, coming out strong in the third quarter, scoring 10 points and holding Poteet to 3 again. Shelby Ellis scored 8 of the 10 third-quarter points. The Lady Bears added 6 in the fourth to give them victory No. 4 in district by the score of 32-12.

High scorer was Ellis with 16 points, followed by Tori Broll with 7, Kim De la Torre with 6, Courtney Shussler with 2 points, and Jennifer Skrzycki with 1.

The Lady Bear junior varsity team improved to 4-0 in district with the win, and was scheduled to face Lockhart Jan. 6.
