Offer condolences


Leon E. Martinez Jr. passed away Friday, Jan. 13, 2012, in Floresville, Texas, at the age of 84 years, 3 months, and 6 days. He was born Oct. 7, 1927, in Floresville, the son of Elvira and Leon E. Martinez Sr. He was a lifelong resident of Floresville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Joseph Martinez; his brother, Ignacio Martinez; and his sisters, Lilly Galvan and Victoria Castro.

Leon is survived by his wife, Delia Martinez of Floresville; his sons, Robert L. Martinez and wife Terri of Floresville, Leonel D. Martinez and wife Helen of Adkins, Leroy D. Martinez and wife Virginia of Floresville, Lupe D. Martinez and wife Vicki of Floresville, and Lesander Martinez and wife Jeannie of Victoria; his sisters, Minnie Barrera, Elvira Devora, and Aurora Martinez, all of Floresville, and Mary Morales, Carmen Muniz, and Adelina Borrego, all of San Antonio; his brother, Adolfo Martinez of San Antonio; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held Monday, Jan. 16, at 5 p.m. in the Franklin Funeral Home Chapel in Floresville, with a rosary recited at 7 p.m.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Floresville, with the Rev. Phil Henning officiating.

Interment followed in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Floresville.

Serving as pallbearers were Sean Martinez, Casey Martinez, Ryan Martinez, Albert Vasquez, Louis Garibay, and Kenneth Castro.
