1933-2012

Duane Lee Grant, 78, of New Berlin, Texas, went to be with our Lord Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2012.

Duane was born Nov. 22, 1933, in Fargo, N.D., and spent most of his youth on a farm in that area. As a young man, he served his country in the U.S. Navy. After his time in the military, Duane worked in the private sector as a vice president at a marketing corporation. Through his second career, as a power-line construction foreman, and numerous vacations, Duane visited nearly every state in the United States. But in conversation with him, it was clear that his greatest joy was the pleasure he got from his children and grandchildren.

Aside from the time he spent with his family, Duane also enjoyed a good cup of coffee at Brietzke’s and dominoes at Luensmann’s. He retired in 1997 from the Guadalupe County Road and Bridge Department. Having won the battle over cancer nearly 15 years ago, Duane volunteered many hours of his retirement time driving cancer patients to and from their own medical treatments.

Duane was a beloved brother, father, and grandpa and will be greatly missed by all of those who were a part of his life.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Magda C. Folwick Grant; and his brother, William “Billy” Grant.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Cellmer Grant; his brother, Joseph Grant and wife Charlene; his daughters, Diana Gliadon and husband Tom, Tracy Carroll and husband Mack Tumlinson, and Nancy Garcia and husband Carlos; his son, John Johnson; his grandchildren, Heather Gliadon, Kent Gliadon, Russell Gliadon, Mack Tumlinson Jr., Tracy Murphy and husband Joel, Russell Tumlinson, Jennifer Carroll, Leslie Frenzel and husband Mark, Christina Carroll, Carlos Garcia IV, Joshua Garcia, Steve Tumlinson, Bo Garcia, and Kallie Garcia.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, Jan. 21, in the Christ Lutheran Church of Elm Creek in Seguin.

Memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
