Stockdale News: Brahma January happenings
Construction of the Stockdale junior high/high school cafeteria continues, with the anticipated date of service set for Tuesday, March 20.
By Paul Darilek
Stockdale Independent School District (ISD) has had a very busy January and will also have a very busy February.
The entire district has kicked off the pennies for patients fund-raiser and all is going well. Ginger Jackson is the main contact for this and if anyone has any questions, feel free to contact her. Thanks for your hard work with this, Ginger.
Congratulations to John Martin of Stockdale High school! John has been chosen as one of the recipients of the 2011 UIL Sponsor Excellence Award. As a winner, John will be recognized by the board of trustees as well as his colleagues at the UIL state meet. John will also receive a $1,000 check as well as a distinctive trophy from the state for his continued excellence in being a UIL sponsor! Once again, congrats to John on his recognition by the State UIL!
Last year, the Junior High B.A.D. (Brahmas Against Drugs) Club began clearing out a space on campus to create a commons area. Thanks to Charles Andruss and the other members of the maintenance and custodial crews, the Junior High Commons Area is open for use and looks wonderful! The materials for the picnic tables were purchased with a grant from the Stockdale Chamber of Commerce, and were built by the fine craftsmen in the ag shop, so big thanks go out to Joshua Heimann and his kids as well! The B.A.D. Club will continue work in the commons area in the spring when we’ll plant flowerbeds.
On behalf of the B.A.D. Club, we hope that the Junior High Commons Area is beneficial for classes and for the student body in general.
And speaking of Mr. Heimann, I know he would like to invite everyone to the Show Barn in Floresville for the Wilson County Junior Livestock Show. Saturday, Jan. 21, will be the horse show and then from Wednesday through Saturday, Jan. 25-28, will be the rest of the show.
The Stockdale ISD will have an early release on Friday, Jan. 20, due to the fact that the district will be hosting the junior high and elementary UIL academics meet. Good luck to all the participants.
Congratulations to our teachers of the month -- elementary school, Barbara Freasier; junior high school, Karen Coston; and high school, Charlin Akin.
Construction is moving right along as planned. If everything falls in place, the new cafeteria will be open for its first service on Tuesday, March 20.
Here is hoping everyone has a great winter and we look forward to that springtime which is just around the corner!
Paul Darilek is the superintendent of the Stockdale Independent School District.
