Chairman Jones supports the Keystone XL Pipeline

Austin, Texas--Today, the State Department denied the permit for the Keystone XL pipeline. The pipeline is 1,700 miles long and would deliver oil from the Canadian tar sands across 5 states all the way to Texas.

Jones stated, “The Keystone XL project has XL in its name because it is XL-extra large economically. It will make us less dependent on foreign oil and improve our energy security while creating domestic economic opportunity. This is the largest infrastructure project on the books right now in the US. For Texas, it means thousands and thousands of real jobs and $41 million in state revenue.”

The $7 billion Keystone XL pipeline will create 20,000 direct jobs: 13,000 in construction and 7,000 in manufacturing. The number of indirect jobs skyrockets across the 6 states in its path. The previously built phase I of the Keystone pipeline cost $6 billion and safely delivered over 160 million barrels of oil to the US since the summer of 2010 and created 90,000 construction jobs.
