Annie Kasper Skarke, a longtime resident of Floresville, Texas, entered eternal rest Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2012, at 10:05 a.m. in the Stone Oak Care Center in San Antonio, at the age of 98 years, 2 months, and 29 days. Annie was born Oct. 20, 1913, in the “Henkshaus” community in Moulton, the daughter of Emil and Martha Seifert Kasper.

Annie moved to Floresville in 1946, and on Oct. 13, 1948, opened Skarke’s Cafe in Floresville. Annie owned and operated her business for 30 years, before selling it in 1978. Annie’s first husband was Frank Jemelka, and her second, Herbert Skarke. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, and working with flowers. She especially enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Frank Jemelka and Herbert Skarke; her brother, August Kasper; and her sister, Emma Ermis.

Annie is survived by her children, Verlene Garrahan and husband Jack of San Antonio, and Jeraldene Boening and husband Ralph of San Antonio; her grandchildren, DeAnn Nealy and husband Eddie, Darla Dunn, Jacky Ramos and husband Eddie, Jason R. Garrahan and wife Lauren, Shanna Hall and husband Scott, Dana Beehler and husband Brice, and Wendy Murray and husband James; and her great-grandchildren, Edward Spencer Nealy, Hunter A. Nealy, Parker J. Nealy, Skyler P. Nealy, Taylor Dunn, Madison Dunn, Preston Garrahan, Savannah Ramos, Zoe Ramos, Dallas S. Hall, Haley B. Hall, Maci B. Murray, Ava B. Murray, and Paige B. Murray.

Visitation was held Friday, Jan. 20, at 12:30 p.m. in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Floresville, with a rosary recited at 1:30 p.m.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Friday at 2 p.m. in the church, with Father Phillip Henning officiating.

Interment followed in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Floresville.

Serving as pallbearers were Annie’s great-grandsons, Hunter Nealy, Parker Nealy, Spencer Nealy, Skyler Nealy, Dallas Hall, and Preston Garrahan.
