Doris Schultz Liska, 80, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2012, surrounded by her family. She was born May 27, 1931, in Kingsville, Texas, to Ben and Lois Travis Schultz.

Doris married Laddie John Liska, a decorated U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a graduate of Texas A&I in Kingsville, on Nov. 22, 1948. They spent almost their entire married life in Falls City, where they raised 11 children. Doris loved music and was gifted with a beautiful voice, singing in school and church choirs as well as on the radio as a young girl. She was a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church choir.

Doris decided to pursue a career in nursing, completing her licensed vocational nurse degree at Bee County College, followed by completion of her degree as a registered nurse at San Antonio College in 1977. She worked at Karnes City Hospital and Otto Kaiser Memorial Hospital until her retirement in 1998. She touched many lives as both a mother and a nurse with her warmth and her love.

Doris and Laddie celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in November 1998, followed by Laddie’s passing away April 13, 1999. Doris bravely endured a 10-year struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was a remarkable woman and will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know her, her family said.

The family deeply thanks Juanita Cantu, Maggie Jarzombek, and Sara Pena for the loving care they provided to Mom. You were each her angels here on earth. Thanks also to Dr. Steven Scheppler and the staff at Regency Manor in Floresville.

She was preceded in death by her spouse; her parents; her brother, Robert Schultz; and her son, Robert Christopher Liska.

Doris is survived by her children, Michael Liska of Pleasanton, Denise Stavinoha and husband Larry of Poth, David Liska and wife Sandra of Victoria, Angela Uhlig and husband Greg of New Braunfels, Greg Liska and wife Debra of Hobson, Jerome Liska and wife Mary of Falls City, Tim Liska and wife Debbie of Karnes City, Mary Claire Hart and husband Dwayne of Boerne, Amy Lyssy and husband Harvey of Poth, and Stephen Liska and wife Shelly of Pleasanton. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Carolyn Liska of Pleasanton; 26 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Kathy Keaton of San Antonio.

Visitation was held Sunday, Jan. 22, from 3-5 p.m. in the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Falls City, with a rosary recited at 5 p.m.

A funeral Mass was held Monday at 2 p.m. in the church, with the Rev. Jan Klak officiating,

Interment followed in the Falls City Cemetery in Falls City.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Holy Trinity Catholic Church CCD Program, P.O. Box 158, Falls City, TX 78113; or to Seton Home, 1115 Mission Road, San Antonio, TX 78210.
