Brahmas too much for Bengals in Stockdale
Robert Bischak (35) and Cody Hastings (2) team up for a big block out of bounds against a Bengals player last Tuesday.
STOCKDALE -- After watching the Lady Brahmas dismantle the Brooks Academy Lady Bengals, it was the boys’ turn to take control of the hardwood in Stockdale last Tuesday night. The boys scored the first and last points of the game, and ended the evening with a big 69-36 win over Brooks.
Senior guard Trevor Baumann scored the first basket of the game, followed by 2 points from fellow senior Colton West. Cody Hastings drilled a 3-pointer to make it a 7-0 contest, and then Robert Bischak responded to the Bengals’ first point with a basket of his own. Tristan Marquez, Tanner Maxwell, and Kelson Alderman also scored for the Brahmas, giving them a 17-8 lead at the end of the first period.
Josh Vela opened the second period of play with a 3-pointer from the corner, and Maxwell dropped in another to make it 22-8. Brooks got onto a short run to 12, but Maxwell, Marquez, Hastings, Bischak, Alderman, and Vela ran the score out to 34-13. When time expired in the first half, it was Stockdale with a 36-17 cushion.
The officials called a tight game, but Stockdale still managed to get things done on defense. The Brahmas came up with a number of blocks, and were clearly winning the battle for rebounds.
The first 2 points of the second half came as Brooks sent Maxwell to the charity stripe. Bischak then made a trip for the Brahmas, and the scoring run was on. Baumann scored 4 more points for Stockdale, and the lead was quickly 45-17.
After a short Bengal run, Wyatt Gabrysch broke things up and added to the Brahmas’ total. Marquez drilled a 3-pointer, and Stockdale led 50-23.
Taylor Deason scored a basket for Stockdale, and Perry Bone dropped in a bucket from beyond the 3-point arc. With just one period left to play, the Brahmas found themselves with a comfortable lead, 55-29.
After nearly two and a half minutes of play into the fourth period without a basket, Hastings broke the stalemate with 2 points off a great steal in the open court. Alderman then found a quick basket for Stockdale underneath, and Maxwell, Bischak, Bone, and Deason all were able to pad their stats a little in the fourth. When time expired, it was the Brahmas with a 69-36 victory.
Maxwell led the team in scoring with 11, followed by Hastings, Bischak, and Marquez with 9 points each. Baumann, Vela, and Alderman each scored 6, Bone was good for 5, and Deason dropped in 4 points. West and Gabrysch each scored 2 points during the win.
