STOCKDALE -- It didn’t begin or end well for the Brooks Academy Lady Bengals last week as they made a trip to Stockdale to face the Lady Brahmas. Led by Kat Wehmeyer’s double-double that put 24 points on the board and 17 rebounds back into the hands of Stockdale, the Lady Brahmas cruised to a 74-20 victory.

Stockdale dominated the game from the onset, as every Lady Brahma who stepped on the floor found a way to either score, or disrupt the Lady Bengal offense. Makaley Perez and Lashay Castro made life miserable for the Brooks ball handlers, and Stockdale led 15-0 at the end of the first period.

Things didn’t get any better for Brooks in the second, and the Lady Brahmas continued to score at will. Perez lit up the board with a pair of 3-pointers to get things going, and then Wehmeyer and Megan Conaway took over inside.

The Lady Bengals scored their first point of the game from the free-throw line with under a minute to play in the half, but Sarah Holguin negated it with a pair of free throws for Stockdale. When the buzzer signaled the end of the first half, it was all Stockdale, 33-1.

The scoring rampage continued in the second half, as Wehmeyer scored first, Holguin dropped one in, and then Perez drilled another 3-pointer to make it a 40-3 game. Brooks scored its second field goal of the game, and Wehmeyer responded with a quick 2 inside. Castro turned a steal into another Stockdale basket, and the Lady Brahmas held a 44-5 advantage.

The Lady Bengals managed one more basket in the third, but Wehmeyer, Perez, and Jewls Templeton closed out the period with an 11-0 run.

With the score 55-7 and only one period remaining in the game, there was little hope for the visiting team. Wehmeyer dropped in two quick baskets to start the final period of play, and Holguin and Haley Wallace soon added to it.

With the score at 63-7, Stephanie Lopez caught a little fire for the Lady Bengals, dropping in back-to-back-to-back 3-pointers. It was a spark for Brooks, but nowhere near enough to bring the Lady Bengals back into the game. Shelly Oltmanns helped kill the run, and Conaway scored the last 6 points of the game, lifting the Lady Brahmas to a 74-20 win.

Wehmeyer led all scorers with 24 points, followed by Perez with 17, and Holguin with 13. Conaway scored 12 points for Stockdale, and Templeton, Wallace, Castro, and Oltmanns each scored 2.
