After months of preparation, members of the area FFA and 4-H clubs will be exhibiting their animals in the Wilson County Junior Livestock Show, in anticipation of selling them in the auction to be held Saturday, Jan. 28, at 2 p.m.

One avenue available to assist with the education of these students is to participate in the Kash for Kids program. Businesses and individuals are invited to participate by donating toward the program. In exchange, the businesses and individuals are recognized for their donations.

Kash for Kids, now in its eighth year, has raised the auction’s proceeds for the students’ education from $160,000 to more than $370,000. This nonprofit organization is made up of all volunteers.

This year, Kash for Kids, through the proceeds of a drawing and Casino Night, will provide $7,200 in scholarships for the breeding show supreme champions.

To participate in the program, a registered buyer must be willing to spend a minimum of $250. The buyer has the option to purchase individually or pool with others. The donor need not attend the auction to participate in the program.

As a registered buyer, the donor has access to the buyer’s ring where complimentary food and drinks are provided Saturday, Jan. 28, at noon. Buyers typically coordinate with each other to share the cost of each animal auctioned so that more students can be helped. The donor can also “add-on” to an item for any amount. Add-ons of $100 or more will have their name/company mentioned during the auction.

Donors can prepay their donations or can be invoiced at the conclusion of the auction with payment due within 30 days of the invoice date.

Committee members include Gerald Eckel, John Yow, Joe Ebrom, Justin Kotzur, Sheila Gilmore, Eddie Alsobrook, Nancy Kolodziej, Trudy Jones, Heather Gutierrez, and Chet Oncken.

The Wilson County Junior Livestock Show will be held Wednesday, Jan. 25, through Saturday, Jan. 28, in the Wilson County Show Barn, located on U.S. 97 east of Floresville. A horse show began this year’s schedule of events.

The baked-foods auction will once again be held in conjunction with the Auction of Champions. At the conclusion of the auction, the results of the ag mechanics silent auction will be announced.

The Wilson County Junior Livestock Show’s premium auction allows the students to retain their animals after the sale, thus allowing the exhibitors to show their animals in other shows.

For more information regarding Kash for Kids, contact Eckel at 830-484-3314, Yow at 210-380-6929, or any other committee member.

For more information regarding the Wilson County Junior Livestock Show, see the schedule on page 2D or call 830-393-7357.
