Daniel “Red” Mills Tejada, a lifelong resident of Floresville, Texas, passed peacefully away Friday, Jan. 20, 2012, at 6:45 p.m. in the Connally Memorial Medical Center in Floresville at the age of 84 years, 11 months, and 20 days. Red was born Jan. 31, 1927, in Floresville, the son of John and Edna Mills Tejada.

He attended Lodi schools and was a meat grader with Roegelein for many years. Red married Dora “Lola” Muniz in Floresville. Red proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and was a member of El Mesias United Methodist Church in Floresville.

Red was preceded in death by his parents; and his siblings, John Tejada, Frank Tejada, Alex Tejada, David Tejada, Florinda Villarreal, and Beatrice Cantu.

Red is survived by his wife of 55 years, Dora “Lola” Tejada; his daughter, Debbie Leal and husband Robert; his son, Daniel “Danny” Tejada; his brothers, Joe Tejada and wife Maria and Louis Tejada and wife Olga; his grandchildren, Jennifer Balcer, Ismael Leal, Amanda Herrera and husband Bennie Herrera III, Daniel Tejada III and wife Janie, and Rebeccah Danielle Tejada; and his great-grandchildren, Chandler and Adrianna Balcer, Destiny Asbell, Ismael Leal III, and Trinidad, Sage, and Juliet Herrera. He is also survived by Mary “Penny” Cervantez, who he loved like a daughter; Helen Cantu, a very special niece; and numerous nephews and nieces.

Visitation was held Monday, Jan. 23, at 5 p.m. in the Vinyard Funeral Home Chapel in Floresville.

A prayer service was held Monday at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.

A funeral service was held Tuesday at 10 a.m. in El Mesias United Methodist Church in Floresville, with the Rev. Francisco Briones officiating.

Interment followed in the Floresville City Cemetery in Floresville.

Serving as pallbearers were Mike Balcer, Bennie Herrera III, Ismael Leal, Daniel Tejada III, Joseph Cantu, and Rick Tejada.
