1962-2012

Jose “JoJo” A. Hernandez, 49, peacefully passed away into the arms of our Lord Monday, Jan. 23, 2012, surrounded by his family and friends in his home in Grand Rapids, Mich. He was born Dec. 29, 1962, in Crystal City, Texas, the son of Juan and Maria Hernandez.

He graduated from Crystal City High School in 1981. Sometime after graduation, he moved to Grand Rapids with most of his family. In 2001, he returned to Texas for a couple of years, where he spent some time in San Antonio and Floresville, before returning to Grand Rapids.

JoJo was the “life of the party.” He always had a smile and joke for every occasion. He loved to hang out with family and friends, play his guitar, and sing. During his time living in Floresville, he and his brother, Carlos “Dino,” were known as the “Wilson County Boys” at area bars where they would sing karaoke.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Juan and Jesse Hernandez; and his niece, Jacquelyn D. Hernandez.

JoJo is survived by his mother, Maria Hernandez of Grand Rapids; his sons, Elgin of Crystal City and Jason of Uvalde; his sisters, Dora Salinas and husband Albert of Eagle Pass, Carmen H. Perez of San Antonio, and Graciela Hernandez of Grand Rapids; his brothers, Carlos “Dino” Hernandez and wife Michele of Floresville, and Samuel Hernandez and wife Becky of Pasadena, Calif.; his dear niece, Rebecca Ann Hernandez and husband Ernest; his fiancée, Linda Hernandez; and cousins. In addition, he is survived by lots of nephews, nieces, and great-nephews and --nieces, who will all miss their “tio Pepe” very much.

A memorial Mass was held Friday, Jan. 27, at 7 p.m. in the St. Joseph The Worker Church in Wyoming, Mich.
