Help Wanted

The City of Poth is currently accepting applications for the position of Chief of Police. The Chief is responsible for all operational and administrative aspects of the police department, provide patrol, criminal investigations, crime prevention, enforce all laws and ordinances and be responsible for public health and safety. Must be community oriented, have strong public relations skills, strong work ethics, must be physically fit and maintain a professional image while in uniform. A High School Diploma or GED is required. Must have a valid Class C or higher Texas Driver’s License. Must be TCLEOSE Master Peace Officer certified and have at least 5 years of experience with law enforcement agency; SWAT, Gang Unit, Narcotics or Detective experience a plus, pass a thorough background check investigation with drug screen and credit check. The City offers benefit package with retirement plan and medical insurance. Salary dependent on qualifications. EOE. 1930-2012

Lois Fay Neffendorf, 81, of Seguin, Texas, passed away on Monday, Jan. 23, 2012. Lois was born March 2, 1930, in Seguin, the daughter of Walter and Myrtle Caldwell Schmitt.

She worked alongside her husband in his Lutheran ministry in churches he served in Floresville, Jourdanton, Hondo, and Edna, where she sang, played the piano, and taught Sunday school classes.

In later years, James and Lois owned and operated the Saddle Shop in Seguin.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 59 years, the Rev. James Clarence Neffendorf; and her parents.

Lois is survived by her son, Dennis Neffendorf; her brother, Roland Schmitt; her nephews, Larry Schmitt and wife Becky, Henry Schmitt and wife Katherine, and Brian Schmitt and wife Alice; her niece, Alice Burnham and husband Clark; her extended family, Mitzi McDonald, Codi Downs, and Peggy Catoe; and numerous other family members, beloved caregivers, and friends.

Visitation was held Friday, Jan. 27, at 10 a.m. in the Tres Hewell Mortuary Chapel in Seguin.

A funeral service was held Friday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel, with the Rev. Jeremy Roy officiating.

Interment followed in the San Geronimo Cemetery in Seguin.
