Help Wanted

Although we make every effort to spot suspicious ads before they run, one may occasionally get into print. If that happens, we ask the consumer to call us ASAP so that we can take corrective action.
Be skeptical of ads that say you can make lots of money working from the comfort of your home. If this were true, wouldn’t we all be working at home?

Offer condolences

Irene Mattke Anderson embraced life for 77 years from Oct. 17, 1934, to Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012.

Velma (Pierdolla) Mattke Ahr, Oscar Mattke with Pauline (Lenz) Mattke, and grandparents John and Mary (Kosub) Pierdolla raised her in La Vernia and San Antonio, Texas. She rests in peace with them and her grandparents, Edward and Emma (Lenz) Mattke.

After suffering the tragic loss of her beloved husband, San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) Detective James E. Anderson, who lost his life in the line of duty in 1975, she is now reunited with him for eternity.

Irene and Jim raised their children in San Antonio, where she worked in accounting and volunteered for many years with the San Antonio Police Wives Auxiliary and other organizations.

Irene was a warm and gentle lady, who loved caring for her children’s friends, playing poker and bunco, and anything chocolate. She appreciated the support of the SAPD for so many years as the widow of a slain police officer.

She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Anderson Levett and husband Dr. Martin Levett; her son, James T. Anderson; her treasured granddaughters, Cristanne and Marivelle Levett; her siblings, Nancy Mattke Jenkins and Allen Mattke and wife Mary Ann and their families; and the Anderson family and many dear friends.

A graveside service will be held Friday, Feb. 3, at 2:30 p.m. in the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio.

Memorial contributions may be made to the San Antonio Police Benevolent Fund for the James E. Anderson Park, P.O. Box 830803, San Antonio, TX 78283.
