FLORESVILLE -- Action on a proposed sports complex, which would be built behind the Lauro G. De Leon III Floresville Event Center, has been delayed until after the completion of Floresville’s annual financial audit, according to Mayor Daniel Tejada Jan. 26.

The city terminated its contract Jan. 20 with Corpus Christi-based consultant John Longoria. The council voted Sept. 14 to hire Longoria to facilitate the design of the complex, for which he was paid $9,500. The cost of construction is yet unknown, but Longoria earlier estimated it could cost as much as $15 million.

City Manager Andy Joslin informed the Floresville City Council of this development during its Jan. 26 meeting. He said the city has kept the related diagrams and documents, which would be utilized if the project were to resume.

Tejada and councilmen Jesse Christopher Flores, Mario Morones, John W. Guerrero, and Sherry Martinez Castillo discussed other items during the meeting. For more, see related article above.
