William Murray, the Mary and Gus Stathis Professor of Greek History at the University of South Florida, will discuss “The Actium Ram Project: Recovering Warships from the Battle of Actium” at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7, in Chapman Auditorium on the campus of Trinity University in San Antonio.

Murray will describe his team’s use of 3D laser technology to extract information toward understanding the configuration of Mark Antony and Cleopatra’s warship rams, used in the Battle of Actium against Augustus in 31 B.C. He also will discuss his future plans for conducting computer-based crash tests to understand more about the realities of naval warfare in ancient Rome.

This lecture is made possible through funding from the University Seminars Program of the Alexander S. Onassis Public Benefit Foundation.

For more information, contact Trinity University’s Department of Classical Studies at 210-999-7653.
