Floresville powerlifters find more success in Goliad
Members of the Floresville Tiger and Jaguar powerlifting team celebrate their strong showing at the Goliad powerlifting meet.
GOLIAD -- For the second time in as many meets, the Floresville Tiger powerlifting team rolled into competition and returned home with a second-place team trophy.
Individually, Alexander Trevino and Mark Livesay led the Tigers with their first-place finishes. Travis Morales earned a silver medal for his efforts, and Benny Ximenez took home bronze.
Competing in the 123-pound class, Livesay dominated the competition with a total lift of 775 pounds. He powered up a squat of 300 pounds, managed to exceed his body weight on the bench with a lift of 155 pounds, and impressed everyone with a deadlift of 320 pounds.
Trevino was also impressive en route to his gold medal. He had a solid bench press of 280 pounds, muscled his way to a deadlift of 475 pounds, and turned in a squat of 500. Trevino’s total of 1,255 pounds was enough to win gold in the competitive 242-pound class.
Morales represented Floresville in the 165-pound class, and he took home second-place honors with a total lift of 1,115 pounds. He turned in a bench press of 230 pounds, a deadlift of 430, and completed a squat of 455 pounds.
Ximenez rounded out the individual medals for the Tigers, as he took home third in the 275-pound class. His bench press of 335 pounds, deadlift of 450 pounds, and squat of 575 were more than enough to capture the bronze and help lift the Tigers to a second-place overall team finish.
Unlike the first meet, several female lifters went along to represent Floresville. The Jags made a great first showing, and Samantha Sauceda even took home some hardware. Sauceda competed in the 114-pound class, and finished with a total weight of 485 pounds, enough to land her in second place with silver. She turned in a bench press of 85 pounds, a squat of 185, and hoisted 215 pounds in the deadlift.
Head Coach Jason Pfluger was thrilled with his team’s performance in Goliad, and is looking forward to watching his lifters progress throughout the season.
