1927-2012

Richard A. “Dick” Havel passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2012, in Pine, Ariz. He was born Sept. 14, 1927, in Poth, Texas, the son of Richard and Lillie Toman Havel.

Dick was a high school athlete. He loved to run and had great legs. As a teen, after school, he would work at the local diner for 10 cents a week and all the food he could eat.

He joined the U.S. Air Force, where he tracked hurricanes.

After three years, he moved to California and met the love of his life, Merle. He fell in love with Merle and her diamond smile. Together, they raised three daughters, Kim, Cindy, and Cheri.

His daughters said he loved to read, watch sports, and take drives in his car. His favorite movie was “Casablanca.”

Dick loved his girls, his dear brother, Gene, and his good friends in Pine, Ariz.

His family said he will be forever loved for his great sense of humor.

Richard donated his body to science, hoping they will learn something helpful for the future.
