SEGUIN -- Floresville High School’s powerlifting teams are turning heads this season, and the Jaguars caught a bit more attention last week as they traveled to Seguin and returned home with a fourth-place team finish.

Spearheading the effort to finish fourth were Serina Holder, Samantha Sauceda, and Alix Pena. All three finished second in their weight classes and helped earn valuable points for the Jags.

Holder earned her silver medal with a total lift of 420 pounds. She had a bench press of 85 pounds, a squat of 115, and pulled off a deadlift of 220 pounds. Pena had a total of 470 pounds, lifting 75 on the bench, 195 on the squat rack, and 215 in the deadlift. Sauceda, who has medaled in every meet this season, won her second-place medal with a total lift of 500 pounds. She turned in a bench press of 100 pounds, a squat of 185, and did a deadlift of 215.

Just missing the medal podium were Haley Cate and Tiffany Dillon, as both finished fourth in their respective weight classes. Haley Cate lifted 70 pounds on the bench press, 100 in the squat rack, and 115 in the dead lift to finish with a total of 285 pounds. Dillon had a total of 330 pounds, lifting 70 on the bench, 115 in the squat, and 145 in the deadlift.

In addition, Makayla Cate and Erin Gittinger competed for the Jaguars, and they finished fifth and sixth, respectively. Makayla Cate had an 85-pound bench press, a 175-pound deadlift, and powered up 185 pounds in the squat for a total of 445 pounds. Gittinger finished sixth with a total of 425 pounds, lifting 75 pounds on the bench, and 175 pounds in both the squat and deadlift.

Head Coach Jason Pfluger was pleased with the Jaguars’ performance, and is very proud of their recent accomplishments.
