Robinson commits to Texas A&M-Kingsville
East Central seniors (from left) Braedon Robinson, Nick Coleman, and Kyle Padalecki celebrate after signing their national letters of intent Feb. 1. Robinson will play football for Texas A&M University-Kingsville, Coleman will play football at the U.S. Air Force Academy, and Padalecki will compete in the pole vault for Texas Tech University.
After a great high school career and a standout senior season, East Central’s Braedon Robinson is now heading to Texas A&M University-Kingsville, where he will play on the defensive line for the Javelinas.
The senior Hornet lineman considered several other schools, including Abilene Christian University, but ultimately decided on A&M-Kingsville following his visit to the campus.
“The campus was really nice. The coaches were nice. I really liked it down there,” he said.
Braedon, a very polite, mild-mannered young man, didn’t have a lot to say, but did confirm that he was looking forward to not only playing football for the Javelinas, but also toward getting a quality education and earning a degree. While he remains undecided on his major course of study, he is leaning toward either business or kinesiology. As for his classes at East Central, Braedon said he enjoys math, but isn’t very fond of English.
When Braedon makes the move down to Kingsville, he is most likely to miss the people in and around his community. He said he was very close with his teammates, and knew it would be an adjustment to be away from everything so familiar.
Although he played primarily as a lineman, and earned his opportunity at Texas A&M-Kingsville because of his play on defense, Braedon was also involved in some creative offensive plays, and even got to handle the ball a bit.
When it comes to memorable games, Braedon said the Hornets’ 35-17 playoff win over Stevens would always stay with him. During the contest, the big defensive lineman had a big game, making a number of plays on both sides of the ball. In addition to his defensive efforts, including a pair of forced fumbles, Braedon also got in on the offensive action. He caught a pass that went for 18 yards, and ran the ball three times for 17 yards, including a pair of rushing touchdowns. That’s not too shabby for a defensive lineman.
