Rhiannon Nelson, “Steve the Pirate” mascot of Poth High School, is among an elite number. She was one of only 32 All American Mascots from across the country to perform Jan. 2 in the 2012 Capital One Bowl Pre-Game show in Orlando, Fla.

She performed with 600 other All-Americans before a crowd of 61,000 in Orlando’s Citrus Bowl in her third and final year as “Steve the Pirate.” Rhiannon has thoroughly enjoyed entertaining the crowds at Poth High School’s sporting events and pep rallies. The appearance in Orlando was the highlight of her mascot career, she said.

Rhiannon was selected as an All American by the Universal Cheerleaders Association, based on overall character development and crowd-leading skills. Only the top 12 percent of mascots attending the association’s camps earn the chance to perform in the Capital One Bowl.
