1947-2012

Thomas “Tommy” Joseph Chilek, a lifelong resident of Wilson County, Texas, entered eternal rest Friday, Feb. 10, 2012, at 2:44 a.m. in his residence in Wilson County, at the age of 64 years, 7 months, and 1 day. Tommy was born July 9, 1947, in Wilson County, the son of Valentine and Lillie Merecka Chilek.

He graduated from Floresville High School, and was a heavy duty mechanic and a welder for many years. Tommy married Frances “Fran” Adamitz on Sept. 11, 1971, in the St. Luke Catholic Church in Loire. His greatest loves were his wife, his children, and his grandchildren.

Tommy loved tending to his cows, and fishing and hunting. He took great pride in barbecuing for his family on his own custom-made barbecue pits. Tommy proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force and the Air Force Reserve. He was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Floresville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother-in-law, Albert “Slim” Roemer; and his father-in-law, Wallace Adamitz.

Tommy is survived by his loving wife of more than 40 years, Fran Chilek of Wilson County; his three sons, Keith Chilek and wife Jennifer Chilek, M.D., of Montgomery, Kyle Chilek and wife Daidra of Floresville, and Kendall Chilek and wife Courtney of Floresville; his eight grandchildren, Kaylie, Lacy, and Grace Chilek, Haley, Isabella, Thomas, and Ava Chilek, and Emerson Chilek; his siblings, Albert Chilek and wife Lorene, Georgie Roemer, and Marty Chilek; his mother-in-law, Philomena Adamitz; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held Sunday, Feb. 12, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Floresville.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. in the church with Father Grzegorz Szewczyk, S.D.S., officiating.

Interment followed in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Floresville.

Serving as pallbearers were Tommy’s brothers, Albert Chilek and Marty Chilek; his brothers-in-law, Randy Smith, Ronald Adamitz, and Jim Lee, M.D.; and his friends, Leroy Krueger, Adolf Huizar, Kent Pfeil, and Randy Svoboda. Serving as honorary pallbearer was Tommy’s grandson, Thomas Chilek.

Memorial donations may be made to the Gregory Chavez Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Central Catholic High School, 1403 N. St. Mary’s St., San Antonio, TX 78215.
