YORKTOWN -- Several members of the Stockdale powerlifting team made the trip to Yorktown Jan. 21, and returned home with several pieces of hardware. Out of six lifters who participated, the team took home two first-place finishes, two second-place finishes, a fourth-place finish, and a fifth place.

In girls competition, Makaley Perez led the Lady Brahmas with her first-place finish in the 105-pound class. Perez lifted a total of 500 pounds to win the gold, turning in a bench press of 85 pounds, a squat of 195 pounds, and a dead lift of 220.

In the 123-pound class, Kristen Moore won a silver medal, taking home second-place honors with a total lift of 555 pounds. She had a bench press of 95 pounds, a squat of 210 pounds, and managed a dead lift of 250 pounds, more than twice her own body weight. The Lady Brahmas were also well-represented by Kyndall Davis, who finished fourth in her weight class. Davis lifted a total of 495 pounds, with a bench press of 95, a squat of 185, and a dead lift of 215 pounds.

On the boys side of things, John Dugi led Stockdale with his first-place finish in the 132-pound class. Dugi lifted a total of 905 pounds, turning in a bench press of 215 pounds, a squat of 315, and an impressive dead lift of 375. It was a 20-pound gain over his last outing.

Matt Valadez also did well, finishing second in the 148-pound class with a total lift of 1,095 pounds. He had a bench press of 240 pounds, powered up 410 pounds on the squat rack, and lifted an impressive 445 pounds in the dead lift. Teammate Perry Bone picked up a fifth-place finish for the Brahmas in the 165-pound class, lifting 865 pounds on the day. His bench press was 200 pounds, he had a squat of 315, and managed a dead lift of 350 pounds.

“The kids are doing great things,” Coach Michael Enriquez said. “They are working hard and they are very excited about lifting in front of a home crowd.”

With the Yorktown meet in the books, the Brahmas and Lady Brahmas began preparing to host their first-ever meet in Stockdale Feb. 11.
