Dr. G.A. “Tom” Summers Jr., 81, of La Vernia, Texas, passed away Thursday, Feb. 16, 2012. He was born July 19, 1930, in San Antonio, the son of Grady Alvin and Carrie Isabel (Bennett) Summers.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Nelson Alvin Summers.

Tom is survived by his wife, Shirley M. (Barry) Summers of La Vernia; his children, Grady Alvin Summers III and wife Judy of San Angelo, Debra June Holloway and husband David of Charlotte, Jane Sijansky and husband Wayne of La Vernia, and Glenn Nelson Summers and wife Ashley of Longview; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; his sister, Edith Elizabeth Downing and husband Jack of San Antonio; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was held Monday, Feb. 20, at 10 a.m. in the First Baptist Church in La Vernia.

A private interment was held.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 279, La Vernia, TX 78121.
