Sylvia Dziuk Scheffler, 87, a lifelong resident of Kosciusko, Texas, entered into rest Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2012.

Sylvia was born March 13, 1924, the daughter of Charles and Agnes Dziuk. She attended school in Pulaski. On Jan. 28, 1946, she married Anton Scheffler in St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Kosciusko. He preceded her in death on March 9, 2007.

She was a lifelong member of St. Ann’s and the Altar Rosary Society.

Sylvia was a typical wife and mother in her era, a stay-at-home mom who raised a large family, cooking, cleaning, sewing, gardening, canning, quilting, and most of all praying. Her favorite hobby was quilting, making numerous quilts for family weddings, graduations, and births, and shared her talent by donating several quilts to the church auction.

She never worked at a large corporation, and was never employee of the year or had a retirement party or received a gold watch. She never hung a college certificate on the wall, or medal in a trophy case, but what she did do was attend all her children’s activities, and show support and encouragement. She taught her family their prayers, good manners, love of God, politeness, accountability, fairness, responsibility, and decency. To them, she was a true hero.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Leonard Dziuk.

Sylvia is survived by her eight children, Bernadette Pruski and husband Lloyd, Alvin Scheffler and wife Carolyn, Evelyn Grimes and husband Lloyd, Lillian Sekula and husband Gerald, Genevieve Pruski and husband S.V., Antonette Garza and husband Rosendo, Rick Scheffler and wife Judy, and Kenny Scheffler and wife Peggy; 22 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; her sisters, Virgie Lyssy, Joan Witte, and Evangeline Urbanczyk; her brothers, Edwin, Joe, Charlie, and Clarence Dziuk; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held Friday, Feb. 17, from 5:30-7 p.m., with a rosary recited at 7:45 p.m. in St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Kosciusko.

A funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday at 10 a.m. in the church with Father Andrew Waszczenko officiating.

Interment followed in the St. Ann’s Cemetery in Kosciusko.

Serving as pallbearers were Sylvia’s grandchildren, Erin Coronado, Michael Scheffler, Chris Grimes, Keith Sekula, Sarah Pruski, Clinton Garza, Shaynna Scheffler, and Travis Scheffler.
