Family celebrates five generations
And baby makes five as Lane David Hernandez, in his mother, Gynna’s, arms, makes history as five generations of his family gather for Thanksgiving in St. Hedwig. Joining the two are Lane’s grandfather, Melvin Burns (second from left); his great-grandmother, Shirley Dziernowski; and great-great-grandfather, Melvin Friesenhahn, a lifelong resident of St. Hedwig.

It’s not often a family can boast of gathering five generations together for one event. To boast five generations of both sides of a family gathered for a single event is almost unheard-of.

Yet this is exactly what the family of Lane David Hernandez achieved for Thanksgiving 2011. Dee Dee Burns and her family gathered for the holiday and to meet little Lane. According to his maternal grandmother, Dee Dee Burns, Lane is the first grandchild, great-grandchild, and great-great-grandchild on both sides of his family.

Lane’s great-great-grandfather, Melvin Friesenhahn, and great-grandmother, Shirley Dziernowski, are lifelong residents of St. Hedwig. His maternal great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, Kay Williamson and June Moyle, respectively, traveled from Englewood, Fla., to meet Lane.

Not in the photos, but also contributing to the generations of family members, are Junior and Millie Hernandez of La Vernia, Lane’s paternal grandparents.
