1917-2012

Our beloved mom and grandma, affectionately known as “Granny Farm,” Irene M. (Shedrock) Story Friedrich, 94, of La Vernia, Texas, went to be with the Lord Sunday, Feb. 26, 2012. Irene was born Sept. 5, 1917, in Adkins, the daughter of Thedore and Mary (Kylla) Shedrock.

Granny lived and enjoyed her life in San Antonio and then in La Vernia on her farm for many years. Her farm is where she adopted and cared for many animals and where her grandchildren enjoyed many summers. Granny’s spirit and her cheerful attitude were a joy to be around and her giggles will be greatly missed, her family said. We love you, Granny.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Carl Story Sr.; her second husband, Alvin Friedrich; her sister, Ida Mergele; and her stepson, Alvin Friedrich Jr.

She is survived by her children, Carl Story and wife Shirley of Adkins, Mary Bukowski and husband Alfred of New Braunfels, Myrtle Kolodziej and husband Chester of La Vernia, and Sandie Friedrich of Austin; and her grandchildren, Alfred Bukowski Jr. and wife Johnnie Kay, Michael Bukowski and wife Debbie, Karon DeBacker and husband Randy, Walter Bukowski and wife Katy, Carla Dyer and husband Roger, Russell Story and wife Jonett, Melissa Haycraft and husband Clint, and Donna Kay Murray and husband Shawn. Granny is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Misty Kay White and husband Larry, Alfred “Beau” Bukowski III and wife Courtney, Michael Bukowski, Ashley Bukowski, Deanne Dugie and husband Chad, Melanie DeBacker, Brandie DeBacker, Randall DeBacker, Jonathan Bukowski, Allison Bukowski, Garrett Pizzini, Mary Biancha Pizzini, Kimberly Bukowski, Grace Bukowski, Bryson Dyer, Bailey Dyer, Cade Story, Lindsey Story, Russell “Rusty” Story Jr., Nicole McQuire and husband Duane, Carly Haycraft, Clint Haycraft Jr., Stacey Swift, and Tiffany Twomy; numerous stepgrandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and their children; her sisters, Helen Morris of San Antonio, Annie Baker of Houston, Florence Wigley of Sabine Pass, and Veronica Dellerman and husband Mickey of New Braunfels; her brother, Anthony Shedrock and wife Rose; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Visitation took place Tuesday, Feb. 28, from 5-9 p.m. in the Finch Funeral Chapel in La Vernia, with a rosary recited at 7 p.m.

A funeral Mass will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the St. Ann Catholic Church in La Vernia.

Interment will follow in the St. Ann Catholic Cemetery in La Vernia.
