The 81st Judicial District Attorney’s office, which includes Frio, La Salle, Atascosa, Karnes and Wilson Counties, is accepting resumes for an Assistant District Attorney position. The selected candidate will work directly under the Border Prosecution Unit Initiative dedicated to Human Trafficking/Human Smuggling. Responsibilities of the position include working closely with federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, felony intake, preparation of cases for grand jury, negotiating pleas and representation of the State of Texas in pretrial proceedings, as well as in criminal bench trials and jury trials in District Court. All applicants must be a graduate of an accredited law school and licensed to practice law by the State of Texas and have a minimum of fifteen (15) years prosecutorial experience and extensive felony trial experience. Maria Guadalupe Rodriguez, a longtime resident of Edinburg, Texas, entered eternal rest Thursday, Feb. 23, 2012, at 9:35 p.m. in the Connally Memorial Medical Center in Floresville at the age of 93 years and 9 months. Maria was born May 23, 1918, in Chamacuaro Guanajuato, Mexico, the daughter of Narciso and Juana Lopez Rodriguez.

She lived in Chamacuaro Guanajuato until 1944, when she moved to Edinburg in Hidalgo County, where she worked as a housekeeper for many years. Maria moved to Floresville in 2011.

Maria is survived by her sister, Rosa Silva of Mexico; her brother, Juan C. Rodriguez of Texas; her nephews, Alfonso Rodriguez and Clemente Rodriguez, both of Texas; her nieces, Minerva Silva of Illinois, and Noemie Lopez and Rosa Alfaro, both of California; and numerous great-nieces and -nephews.

Visitation was held Saturday, Feb. 25, at 11 a.m. in the Vinyard Funeral Home Chapel in Floresville.

A rosary was recited Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Floresville, followed by the celebration of Mass with Father Phillip Henning officiating.

Interment followed in the Floresville City Cemetery in Floresville.

Serving as pallbearers were Alfonso Rodriguez Jr., Angel Rodriguez, Joey Morado, Angel Renee Rodriguez, John Sanchez, and Isaiah Amesquita.
