1926-2012

Vance Parks, 85, of Stockdale, Texas, died Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2012. He was born Oct. 2, 1926, in Nixon, the son of Lonnie Leon and Maude (Williams) Parks.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Chris Parks; his brother, Lonnie Edward “Bubba” Parks; his sister, Leola Henry; and an infant brother, Guy Parks.

Vance is survived by his wife, Jo Ann (Mills) Parks of Stockdale; four sons, Roger Parks and wife Cindy of Boise, Idaho, Gary Parks and wife Linda of Nixon, Steve Parks and wife Judy of Leesville, and Mike Byrd of El Paso; his sister, Elsworth Patteson Bird of Nixon; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as many close friends.

Visitation was held Sunday, March 4, from 5-8 p.m. in the Finch Funeral Chapel in Nixon.

A funeral service was held Monday at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Jim Kennedy officiating.

Interment followed in the Nixon Cemetery in Nixon.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
