Stockdale courts second tenant for industrial park
STOCKDALE -- The Stockdale Industrial Park, located off U.S. 87, may soon have its second occupant. During a Feb. 27 special called meeting of the Stockdale City Council, the council voted for Stockdale City Manager Banks Akin to proceed with negotiations with an interested party.
Akin said Feb. 29 that the council withdrew into an executive session to discuss real estate and value. The party is interested in a one-acre tract located at the southeast corner of the park, bordering Guerra Street and St. Mary’s Street where it will extend to West Wheeler Street, Akin said. He could not disclose additional information about the project, since the party did not sign an earnest money contract.
The Stockdale Economic Development Corp. (SEDC) and the city own the property. Akin said the SEDC has been involved with the negotiations and asked Akin to proceed on its behalf, as well.
Also during the meeting, the council approved to call an election on the sale of the “City of Stockdale’s Natural Gas System.” The council voted during its Jan. 10 meeting to let the citizens determine if the city will continue to own the company or sell it. As of press time March 5, the company was not operating on a balanced budget.
This item will be on the May 12 ballot, to be held in conjunction with the election of three council places, if needed.
