Jags end powerlifting season at Southside
SAN ANTONIO -- While the accolades of the Floresville Tiger powerlifting team are impressive this year, the Jaguar powerlifting team is also working hard, and the girls recently made a strong showing at the Southside meet.
Floresville traveled to Southside High School back on Feb. 16 to compete in the girls powerlifting meet, and the Jags closed out their season with a fifth-place team trophy.
Serina Holder led the Jaguars with her second-place finish. She turned in a 500-pound total with a bench press of 85 pounds, a squat of 185, and a deadlift of 230 pounds. Samantha Sauceda finished fourth with her 565-pound total, and Alix Pena and Erin Gittinger did the same with their 485- and 490-pound totals. Sauceda had a bench press of 120, a squat of 215, and a deadlift of 230 pounds. Pena turned in a bench press of 100 pounds, a deadlift of 180, and a squat of 205. Gittinger had a bench press of 85 pounds, a squat of 185, and a deadlift of 220 pounds.
A trio of Jaguar lifters picked up fifth-place finishes at Southside, including Makayla Cate, Haley Cate, and Tiffany Dillon. Makayla had a three-lift total of 500 pounds, and Haley and Dillon had three-lift totals of 370 pounds. Samantha Galindo finished sixth at Southside with her three-lift total of 395 pounds.
“This was their last meet and I am very proud of the progress they made during the year,” said Head Coach Jason Pfluger. “We would also like to thank Megan Steele, Joseph Compian, Roby Pennartz, and Jarrett Palitza for their help throughout the season.”
