Foundation announces scholarships

Four scholarships of $500 each will be offered by way of an essay contest for 12th- grade students of any faith or ethnicity. Sponsored by the Father Leopold Moczygemba Foundation, the Silesian-Polish Texans Essay Contest topic is “Portrayal of a Silesian-Polish Texan.” The entry deadline is Friday, April 20.

Eligible participants should follow the guidelines below:

•Focus on one person of Silesian-Polish descent who lived in Texas in the 1800s or 1900s

•Compose an interesting and original paper about this person

•Include biographical information, personality traits, career, and milestones

•Note any activities connected to ethnicity, such as memberships in parish or organizations

•Reflect any Polish traditions, language, or sayings of the person, if possible

•Consider the person’s challenges and contributions

•Type between 400-600 words, double-spaced

•List a minimum of four sources with at least one non-Internet source

•Interview a senior Silesian Texan for additional details about the subject and include name and date of the interview in the essay’s citations

•Use proper English, grammar, punctuation, and spelling.

On a separate page, the student should include his/her complete name, address, email, phone number, and name of school.

Entries are to be submitted either by email to committee@silesiantexans.com or to the Father Leopold Moczygemba Foundation Essay Contest, P.O. Box 9, Panna Maria, TX 78144.
