1922-2012

At home, surrounded by family, LC Robbins Sr., 89, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, March 10, 2012. He was born April 20, 1922, in Gillett, Texas, in Karnes County to William Thomas Robbins and Cora Martha White.

On July 6, 1942, he married Verona Lee Willeford in Floresville, and they were blessed with six children.

LC loved and served his country honorably in the U.S. Army from August 1940 until October 1945, attaining the rank of staff sergeant. A member of the “Great Generation,” LC served in the European Theater of World War II as a combat medic with the 42nd Infantry Division, also known as the “Rainbow Division.” He was also part of the military mission which liberated prisoners from Dachau Concentration Camp in Germany.

After the war, LC became a commercial and military construction contractor. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of La Vernia and enjoyed fishing, hunting, farming, and ranching. LC will be dearly missed and never forgotten, said his family.

LC was preceded in death by his parents; his four brothers; his five sisters; his son-in-law, William Breda Jr.; and his granddaughter, Lindsey Robbins.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Verona Robbins; his children, Sue Robel and husband Raymond, LC Robbins Jr., Larry Robbins and wife Margaret, Martha Shank and husband Gary, Tommy Robbins and wife Heather, and Joel Robbins and wife Lynn; his daughter-in-law, Joyce Robbins; his grandchildren, Dana Robel, Dona Westerman and husband Kenneth, Lacey Vargo and husband Tim, Lyle Robbins and wife Michelle, Amanda Hirshon and husband Jonathan, Melanie Shank, Larry Robbins Jr. and wife Kelly, Leslie Lockhart and husband D.J., Glenn Robbins, and Shannon Robbins; great-grandchildren Amber Ivy and husband Mike, Everett Miller, Luke Miller, Leighton Robbins, Lanham Robbins, Landry Vargo, Caroline Robbins, and Andrew Robbins; his sisters, Imogene Clements and Bobbie Lou Smith; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Visitation will be Wednesday, March 14, from 5-9 p.m. in the Finch Funeral Home in La Vernia.

A chapel service will take place Thursday at 10 a.m. with Pastor David Gale of First Baptist Church officiating.

An interment with military honors will follow in the Post Oak Cemetery in Guadalupe County.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Stephen C. Cohen Foundation for Oncological Research, 2130 NE Loop 410, San Antonio, TX 78217.
