Hospital to spend $240K to wound- care equipment
Changes continue to come to the wound-care program at the Connally Memorial Medical Center in Floresville, with the latest being the purchase of two hyperbaric chambers and a transcutaneous oxygen monitor (TCOM).
Wilson Memorial Hospital District board members Ronnie Eckel, Sue Coats, Keith Johanson, Sandy Yow, Tommy Soriero, and Monica Flores allocated the funds during a March 6 special meeting.
The board voted to amend its capital equipment budget by allowing the expenditure of up to $240,000. They then voted to purchase two, 36-inch hyperbaric chambers and one TCOM unit, which the hospital’s Chief Executive Officer Jerome Brooks said would cost an estimated $233,662.57.
The units are expected to arrive at the hospital Monday, March 19, Brooks said. He anticipates they will take up to two days to install.
The board’s decision to purchase the equipment comes on the heels of its Feb. 29 decision to terminate its contract with wound-care service provider Accelecare effective Thursday, March 16. The program will be managed on an interim basis by San Antonio-based International ATMO. (See “Hospital changes wound-care program,” March 7.)
