The Texas State Senior Games, formerly The Senior Games of San Antonio, will be held March 17 through April 1 at various locations throughout the city of San Antonio. This is the first time San Antonio has played host to the Texas State Senior Games, and more than 1,600 athletes representing 25 states and Canada are expected to compete. There will also be close to 300 walkers for this year’s opening ceremony.

This year is a qualifying game for the National Senior Games being held in Cleveland, Ohio, in June 2013. That means any athlete wishing to move on to the National level must place in the top three or four finishers in their age division, depending on the event.

Athletes may register online or download a paper form from the Sports for Life website. Registration forms may also be picked up at various locations in San Antonio, including the Barshop Jewish Community Center, all WellMed locations, and select bowling alleys, tennis centers, golf courses, cycling stores, and running stores.

The deadline for registrations for deca-challenge events is Friday, March 16.

Organizers are also seeking volunteers for a variety of positions. Volunteers can find more information, as well as a registration form, online at www.jccsanantonio.org. An event schedule may also be found on the Sports for Life website, including venue locations and more. Volunteers should fill out the form or call 210-302-6973 for more information.
