FLORESVILLE -- With the stroke of her pen, Floresville senior Samantha Flores has set herself on a course for Dallas, where she will attend school and play volleyball for the University of Texas at Dallas.

In addition to playing volleyball for the Comets, Flores is looking forward to receiving a college education, and said she plans to major in pre-med. She considered several additional schools, including Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi and Abilene Christian University, but she said the pre-med program at UT-Dallas helped make the decision easier.

Flores said she is looking forward to continuing her volleyball career, and to experience living somewhere other than Floresville. She said she will miss her family, but is excited about “getting out.”

Flores found success in a volleyball program that experienced its share of ups and downs. She said that all of the changes were hard, but that everything brought the team together and made it stronger. Flores said everything worked out in the end, and that the hiring of Head Coach Regan Curran was a blessing for the seniors.

“She is the main reason I am there,” Flores said of her intention to play for UT-Dallas. “She really helped a lot.”

Flores said the most memorable game of her high school career was her last playoff game, as it was her last game as a Jaguar.

Flores began playing volleyball at the age of 10, and also competed in basketball, softball, and soccer until she reached her freshman year of high school.

“I just stuck to volleyball after that,” she said.

As for other interests, Flores said her life pretty much revolves around volleyball and work.

“It’s all there is to me,” she said.

Flores expressed thanks to everyone who helped her achieve her goals, but was quick to give special thanks to Curran for all her help.

The praise was not one-sided, however, as Curran expressed how she felt about the talented senior.

“I am very proud of her, and she has worked very hard for this,” Curran said. “She is going to do a great job at UTD.”
