Refugia Sanchez, 88, a lifelong resident of Falls City, Texas, passed away Thursday, March 15, 2012, in Floresville, Texas. She was born July 4, 1923, in Falls City, the daughter of Macario and Juanita Diaz Aguirre. She was a homemaker, a Catholic by faith, and a member of De Colores.

She was preceded in death by her birth parents; her parents that raised her, Dionicio and Eliadia Aguirre; her brothers, Juan Aguirre, Clemente Aguirre, Cleofas Aguirre, and Adolph Aguirre; her sisters, Genevieve Jaramillo, Rufina Martinez, and Genara Flores; and a great-grandson, Diego Alexander Garcia.

Refugia is survived by her daughter, Mary Lou Jaramillo and husband Manuel of Karnes City; her sisters, Rosa Sanchez of Hobson, Modesta Sanchez of Snyder, and Dominga De Hoyos of New Mexico; her stepmother, Dominga Aguirre of Falls City; her grandchildren, Christina Cervantes, Molly Hons, Susan Garcia, Paul Jaramillo, Gracie Hons, and Amanda Hons; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held Sunday, March 18, at 1 p.m. in the Rhodes Funeral Home Chapel in Karnes City with a rosary recited at 7 p.m.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. in the St. Cornelius Catholic Church in Karnes City.

Interment followed in the Falls City Cemetery in Falls City.

Serving as pallbearers were Roger Garcia, Kelly Hons, Paul Jaramillo, Louis Hons, Victor De Hoyos, and Ruben Sanchez. Serving as honorary pallbearers were Patrick Cervantes, Matthew Hons, Kaleb Hons, Mark Hons, and Mason Garcia.
