STOCKDALE -- Temporary lodging in Stockdale will be easier to find, with construction under way on the new Stockdale Inn and Suites.
Pratik Bhakta, who has been in the hotel business for 25 years, said Stockdale makes his 12th venture; his other hotels are located in Gonzales, Yoakum, and Giddings, among others. This venture is the first for his son, who joins him in the hotel business. After completion, six to seven employees will be hired to work the facility.
Groundbreaking for the approximately $2 million turnkey, 30-room hotel occurred March 8 on 1.25 acres located off Fordtran Street, behind the Brahma Bullpen convenience store.
Bhakta said the establishment will include an outdoor pool, exercise room, a business center, a breakfast room, and meeting room. Added features include wireless Internet availability and 42-inch flat screens.
Three type of rooms will be available, including eight business-class suites, seven rooms with king-size beds, and the remaining 15 with two queen-size beds each, to accommodate almost anyone’s needs.
Ralph Oltmann of McLenCo General Contractors of Waco is overseeing the construction. This company has built other hotels for Bhakta, including the Beeville, Three Rivers, and Giddings locations.
Financing has been secured through Sage Capital Bank of Gonzales.
Excavation for the foundation of the hotel was set to begin March 12.
